The 17th South American Youth Championships in Athletics were held at the Estadio Modelo[1] in Guayaquil, Ecuador from September 25-26, 2004.

Detailed result lists can be found on the "World Junior Athletics History" website.[2] An unofficial count yields the number of about 254 athletes from about 12 countries: Argentina (28), Bolivia (4), Brazil (59), Chile (32), Colombia (27), Ecuador (49), Guyana (5), Panama (2), Paraguay (5), Peru (23), Uruguay (2), Venezuela (18).
Medal winners are published for boys[3] and girls.[4] Complete results can be found on the "World Junior Athletics History" website.[2]

The trophies for the most most outstanding performance were awarded to Jonathan Davis (Venezuela) and Franciela Krasucki (Brazil). Jessica Quispe (Peru) gained the trophy for the most improved athlete.[6]
